I don't think so, I understand it only applies to sugar content of fizzy drinks.
Worth stocking up at the moment as prices are lower than I can ever remember. I'm paying between 39 and 45p a kilo. Wasn't it nudging 90p only 2-3 years ago?

If anything, the reduced demand for sugar from the fizzy pop Giants may keep the cost down, the reason it's so low at the moment is due to the low oil price.
Lots of sugar was produced while the oil price was high in order to make a bio ethanol fuel that would be more economical than petrol.
However with the oil price being so low, the demand for the sugar disappeared creating a huge over supply.

Good point. Even more spare sugar
I personally think it will be completely pointless.
All the manufacturers will replace the sugar with aspartame ( or whatever artificial sweetener they choose) , and very few of them will pay any sugar tax whatsoever. They have two years to come up with a new recipe now even your slowest, most bureaucratic corporation can manage that.
...... and back in the room. Rant over.
