Yeasts
I know most of us aren't turbo yeast fans (with the possible exception of a few of us using half a packet of vodka star per 23 litres), but I'm curious if anyone has tried any of these?
My flat is at a constant 21 degrees C with no warmer or cooler places available and every natural wash I try is sticking (could be my tap water). Beer and wine are slow but get there, but I end up having to add nutrient to kale, tomato puree, etc etc to get it to finish (6kg of sugar or 6 tins of golden syrup in 23 litres).

Re: Yeasts
If you think it's the water. Sort it. Don't mess about with yeast strains it won't help.
Water treatment isn't complex once you know what you have.
Get an aquarium test kit and the water company report.
Also... Is it a problem with bottled water?

I don't know the answer to the bottled water question as I've only used it to dilute after spirit run and not right the way through. I'll get on to the other stuff.

Ok. Shout up - not an expert but have dabbled with water treatment.
Hardness (calcium) is often a basic problem. I am lucky ours is 'hard as nails'

Thanks Mash (and Gaza)
I've only got as far as my water being moderately soft (dishwasher setting 0-1) and awaiting a reply from my supplier to their statement "Home-brewers may be interested in the Calcium, Magnesium, Carbonate, Sodium, Sulphate, Chloride and pH levels of their water supply. If you cannot locate the information you require, please contact us at ..."

Re: Yeasts
It is good to see your water supplier promising to be helpful.
I suspect that your request may not be high priority, but should provide a result, eventually
Robert.

Re: Yeasts
Beer brewers do consider water treatment. Your local HBS might also be good for info.
Calcium sulphate (gypsum) would be a good place to start.

They got back to me very promptly first thing Monday morning explaining that I had made a freedom of information request and they can charge £25 per hour if I insist on getting an answer
Game on, I'll have fun with this.
