Storing at high ABV

Hello, i was planning on going on holidays back to my country of origin in south america and bring some if the samples i have been distilling, is it safe to transport alcohol at 90% on a standard 700ml vodka glass bottle?

High strength alcohol, 50%+, is highly flammable and has a very low flash point.

I don't really see a problem if you use a new self sealing lock cap as you can buy 90%abv proof whisky in most duty free shops and transport it safely by air! Someone mentioned that 90%abv was like transporting a bottle of petrol this is not true as petrol has a very high naphtha content and alcohol has none making it only flammable and not explosive. Since alcohol is soluble with water it is easy to extinguish an alcohol fire. Not so a petrol fire which requires a retardant foam.

I think you have got the terminolgy a bit mixed up.

There is no such thing as 90%abv proof. You can have 90%abv or 90%proof, they are not the same and I have never seen 90% ABV for sale in any duty free shop.

The fact that an alcohol fire on an aeroplane is easier to extinguish than a petrol one is something that I do not even want to think about, flammable liquids on an aeroplane are a hazard.

Try it out - go to B&Q and buy some 95% methanol and declare it as you walk onto a plane and see if they will let you take it on board. Try and smuggle it on board and see where you end up.

I had meant to follow 90%abv with 180 proof but changed my mind and forgot to erase the proof! Again YHB you have trolled me for I think the third time this evening. I'm only trying to make a useful contribution and share my experiences.
As for 90% abv try KNOCKEEN HILLS POTEEN it comes in 90abv = 180 Proof and is on sale at the below air ports in duty free.If they are selling it to tourists leaving the country I can only assume you can take it home?
