I know a small number of us on here like to bake/cook/brew....but how many forage??.
Where we live there are fruit trees, apples & plums in the hedgerows, cob nuts, quinces, sloes, elderflower/berry...along with blackberries..and don't forget the horseradish, Sunday roast beef wouldn't be the same without it.

This makes for a wonderful time.....and it's all free.

Yup - apples, elderberries, blackberries, raspberries, wild cherry, hazelnut, sassafras root, burdock root, dandelions, purslane, mushrooms, etc. Nature is pretty generous around here.

oh yeah

Apples (sharp & sweet), Walnut, blackberries, elderberries & flowers, raspberries, wild cherry and horse radish.

I also fancy the idea of mushrooms but am not allowed by wife A friend of mine bought a book entitled "Don't be frightened of mushrooms" and after reading it was even more frightened !!

Any recommended reading anybody?

At the other end of the stick,my friend and I are wild planting.
We have easy access to Water Board land,land surrounding water catchment areas,that is fenced off, and grows only wild scrub or grass.
We are dobbing in commercial strains of Blackberries,Blackthorn (Sloes),Crab Apples,-you catch my drift.
Under the Scottish Right to Roam laws,anyone may wander past and possibly pick the booty provided.
If they don't,we may live long enough to do it ourselves.
We consider it a worthwhile act.
And not too much of a messing with nature thing.
Sometimes She needs a helping hand.

I use the Audubon guide to mushrooms, but that probably isn't all that helpful if you live outside of North America. Anyway, there are only about half a dozen types of edible mushrooms that I trust myself to identify with 100% certainty and I don't mess with any others.
