Re: Gin.
Hi again i had a go at the Gin essence from the hd parent site except I used
1 clove
6 coriander seeds
1" cinamon stick
2 black pepper seeds
2"liquorice stick
1 cardamon
100grm juniper
2 strips orange peel
1 strip lime peel
0.5 tsp orris root powder
all crushed with pestle and mortar
then simmered in 500ml of 40 abv vodka for 15 mins and left overnight
to cool filtered after 14 hours leaving 350 ml of essence.
made the first bottle with 10 ml of the essence which tasted quite nice more so with tonic the only trouble with this essence is the colour so i am going to name it Jaundice Gin may have to put it through the air still to clean it up
Cheers
P.S
shmbo has informed me that this is the first drink that i have made which tastes absoloutly rubbish so back to the drawing board it is.

Re: Gin.
As I am a lazy sod, but also hate the formulated essences out there, I just macerate 100gms of whole junipers in 750ml of gin for a couple of weeks. Pass through a filter and bottle.
Yes, it changes colour, but I have have Bombay Sapphire drinking friends who really like it.
Simple and effective, much like my sexual technique.

Re: Gin.
My juniper amount was too much too.
Just put another one on (nicked from a site I can't remember)
1.5 Litres vodka
30gms Juniper
8 gms coriander crushed
1 cardamom pod crushed.
1 stick of cinnamon
Dried orange peel
Dried lemon peel
Lave for 7-10 days shaking once a day. Pass through filter paper a few times till the liquid is clear.
Then make Timanfaya cocktails! (I have just been to Lanzarote).
1 1/2 gin
1 Peach Schnapps
1/2 Sugar Syrup
1 Orange Juice
1 Peach Juice
Shake with ice. Strain into highball filled half way with ice.
Decorate with smidge of grenadine.
Drink it whilst trying not to be too gay.
