bottle swaps

On another forum it was not unusual to post small bottles of home-made around.

This way of the members could taste/compare/critique/discuss.

It also was created a buzz on the forum.

Granted, we would want to find very small & cheap bottles!!

Does anyone want to give it a go?

I think many members would be wary of sharing their actual ID and addresses :-[ I have done so on four occasions and I now regret three of those for various reasons.

That was my thought too. Make it and consume it on your own property and I figure the authorities have better things to do. Start shipping it around and they may take an interest.

Well.....Ive sent my swill to at least 8 addresses in Aust (I have even hosted a rare few distiller get-togethers) and have enjoyed every bit of doing such ....
the gift of giving is exactly that and IMHO I will continue to err on the side of positivism when it comes to suggested risk regarding such actions.....
Besides, the flowon/reciprocity has been wonderful.

Life's too short etc IMHO ;)
(and I don't for a moment wish to discount alternative opinions posted on this thread)

Frank, I remember asking you to reach out to one of our members who was visiting Aus for a family affair and feeling a bit alone, drinks-wise. You, in particular, did just that and entertained that member in royal fashion. So it is possible to have exchanges and even meet ups but I think in these parts we do tend to feel it's too easy to get spotted - small population - relatively!

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me :D :D :D

I think Frank has it - in his part of the world folk are maybe more gung-ho,and devil take the hindmost.I guess it's a culture thing.
In the conservative, with a small c British isles, lots of people are so scared of their own shadow, that the powers that be don't even have to work;the populace is already scared shitless and afraid of putting out the wrong dustbin for collection.
It is so refreshing to hear that other people think as I do.
Anyone wanting a taste of my product, drop me a pm.
Of course,I will require your physical address.
Does that scare you?

Robert.

Pity about bottle swaps being in an iffy area regarding trust.. :o
On my brewing forum we do a 20 brewer swap about 3 times a year where we all send 20 Coopers plastic beer bottles of the same individual brew to an address and once all delivered the guy who's agreed to accept puts one bottle from each brewer back into your box for return postage and once received we sample 1 designated bottle on Friday & 1 on Saturday then write a review on each without knowing who the brewer is.

But that's beer, this is a tad different where trust is paramount!!

We should all meet up at a secret venue dressed in disguise and wearing strange masks

That way they'll just assume we're a satanic cult having an orgy and leave us alone ;D

@AT: good call...or better still, lets start another certified religion and then odd practices are not only deemed acceptable but also legally tax-deduct ......

Ooops sorry...
@Aidan: mate I should not let a good story get in the way of facts but, whilst I did try to assist, it wasnt me whom got ya mate lubricated on said Aussie visit (too many kms between us at the time unfortunately) but another Aussie distiller (I'll let him out himself iffen he chooses)
@Googe: yep, and I was given some of your fine fare in return (much to Mrs franks approval)

OK, I do get we're all coming at this hobby from different angles, not least based on our attendant cultural paradigms, its just I would rather put up with unlikely event of some 'explaining-to-do' for the likely benefit of what I know to have been my experience regarding new friends/good vibes etc etc.
I know this sounds like a wank, but I do actually walk-the-walk, as it were and reckon its worth sharing, for consideration ::)

(*apologies, in advance for this cross-forum link, if that's a problem)

-----> this was not strictly a bottle 'swap' but more like an endless random sample offer..... ;) I recommend it highly.
