Re: Looking for a Kraken Black Spiced Rum recipe!
Absolutely no clue as I don't pretend to have a good palate. My first attempt was about 70% abv, made with the afore mentioned asda dried ground spice and a little vanilla, glycerine and star anise, diluted to 40% with guinness and nuked once, then necked while not sober.

LOL
Maybe your aproach could sort the reason that I am not a spiced Rum/Rhum fan?
Robert.

I agree. As mentioned on other threads, I like a spiced rum as in with spice but not sweet/artificial (not too orange/lemon) and honey whiskeys (Irish Mist being favourite) but not too sweet or artificial (Jim Beam honey being worst). It is entirely possible that I want my mash made with more stout ingredients and less molasses rather than flavouring the rum after distillation.

Interesting line of thought Curmudge....
Are you talking particularly rum here with your comment on a mash with more stout ingredients....

Didn't want to respond until I'd played some more.
I've done half molasses/half stout beer kit washes and "normal" rum washes with stout/porter added instead of water between stripping and spirit run and for me the latter is better, but your mileage will likely vary.
edit : these are unaged or with microwave aging. You know better than me that this could change immensely.

Interesting.....have been playing along the same lines with pleasing results.
I'm not especially looking for a Kraken clone, rather trying for a unique rum.

I remember when people thought that my accidental foray into Garlic Vodka was weird.
I would far rather drink that than the drink in this topic.
It is just as well that we are all different
We are all individuals.
( Brief nod to MP & TLOB there, you get it or you don't! )
I am amazed by some of the drinks that other folk often imbibe.
Soft or hard.
Robert.
