I recommend you try to get your hands on at least one Stainless Steel beer keg, they make a great boiler. There's some cutting and welding to be done to fit the drain/tap and the opening for your element(s) and to fit a ferrule to the top opening but you'd have to do all that with any vessel you propose to use.

This is the 11" 2Kw element I had fitted as standard and I also have a 3Kw that screws into the same fitting for strips, just to speed things up.

Made a new friend who's an engineer and did the welding for me at small cost. I got my two kegs free from a big brewery after writing to them begging but you can buy them too.

The big advantage of beer kegs, to me, is that they are very durable and stable too ;)
