Floating Plates by FullySilenced
A while back i was working on an idea to install perf plates into a glass column. I started with the idea of a freeze plug/welch plug as a start for my plates.
My prototypes i hand hammered from copper sheet, drilled 1.5mm holes for an open area of 8% of the plate area and installed a 1/2" downcomer with cup.
The idea was to see the plate inside the glass column as if it was floating in air ... while in actuality the taper on the edge of the cup was holding it securely inside the glass or other column material.
I later made up a form and spun a few on the lathe to fit my column and i am still running those today..
Here are two examples, one the original hammered plate and the first spun prototype. these are installed in a 3" dia. by 4" long sanitary spool and have been run numerous time with out fail.
enjoy the photo's and the concept
