Cheers SDe, I'm sorted now..but maybe in the future for the UK market it would be a lot easier if we could just pop a 3kw element 2" or 2.25" into the boiler. It did get me thinking that maybe a 3"x 2" reducer with an end cap could be converted to take a UK element... ;) just a thought... 8)

Am I right in thinking the rest of Europe has a completely different electrical setup, as in a 110v system, same as the US and getting things like single electric elements shipped from around the EU just isn't practical because it's not the sort of thing generally sold by online shops - other than trade suppliers who expect you to buy volume.

Europe and beyond has 220~240V/50Hz single phase and 400V/50Hz three-phase, however the USA has 110V/60Hz single phase and 220V/60Hz two-phase, as do some other countries abroad. It's not quite as complicated as the mess with the different pipes and threads... ;)

The USA maybe 110 volt, but they sell loads of 220/240 stuff on Amazon/Ebay.

That's right, and I can only assume it's for Canada, Europe and the rest with 240V, I would not know what an American would do with a 240V single phase element.

From my point of view if it has to come from outside the EU it's not worth the hastle and extra tax, etc.

Just picked up the latest posts here and it answers some of my queries on the 'beer keg to boiler' thread I started
I was planning to send back the 2 1/4 " threaded element I got and get a 1 " one until like you I couldn't locate one that would fit
So sticking with it and have ordered one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-1-4-BSP-Sta ... 1c412c5b0f

For the top column port I am erring towards a 6" triclamp weld on flange which my Chinese ebay friends supply coupled with one of SDE 6" to 4" reducers
Not the cheapest option but should make cleaning easier on more messy washes

Know what you mean AT...you have the 2.25" I'd work with that after the trouble of finding a 1". There are elements (1") out there (USA, China) that will do the job, just a bugger having to wait until the first week of March for it, although I've had an email today saying it's on it's way .
The more I think about using a 3"x 2" reducer with an end cap the better I like it...maybe something to get my head around later on this year. All I want to do is get this new kit up and running...I've 46 liters to do...looks like I'll have to use the 500.. :D
The next box of bits from SDe are now on UK soil so early next week I'll have them, won't be able to do anything..other than polish them.. :D :D

That 6" triclamp flange will be a big bugger...don't forget the photos.

Aye, the 2.25" elements are a big old fitting, and it usually means you have to fit it higher up the vessel, which means you have to have a larger minimum volume, but you can pick them up cheap as chips from any DIY or plumbing outlet for a few notes.

I was sold for that reason alone, but it means I have to ensure I'm left with 12L in my keg boiler at the end of a run.

My parcel from SDe has arrived...about 20 mins ago..with all my little bits & bobs...all I need now is the element and I'm ready to light the blue touchpaper and retire to a safe distance. :D :D

I've checked the two lentil wash's and their nearly done...first one with 5.5kg of sugar SG..1.116..that's now 1.015.
No2 with 5kg sugar..SG..1.094..now 1.010.

The Premium cellar wine I did SG..1.080 and that's now 1.005. The wine may find itself going through first at this rate.. :D
