My Parrot

Postby YHB » Thu Mar 01, 2012 9:12 pm

I havn’t posted much recently, primarily because I have been waiting to change homes before I assembled the still, but a slight hiccup with the legal people means I will have to wait a bit longer, so this is a mini project that I did in the meantime to stop me being bored.

Having time on my hand I wanted to build something that did not cost much.

I have always fancied having a go at beaten copper work, so I decided to have a go.

I took 60mm (3”) of 20mm (3/4”) pipe split it , flattened it and then hammered it into this shape.

I took another 60mm (3”) of 20mm (3/4”) pipe split it , flattened it and this time made this one.

Soldered the two together to come up with this

And then made two of them, added a few other bits of pipe and came up with this – a "Distillers Parrot" made without a single bought fitting. All the pipe came from surplus bits and pieces but if you wanted to buy them they would cost less than 5 pounds..

MM

In answer to your questions

1) ?? It depends on the strength of the spirits ?? - But if you are asking about the size of the Glass Cover then you can run the parrot with the glass in place for spirits over 40%, anything less than that you will need to take the cover off - or wait till I go to Tesco's this week and find a taller jar.

2) 75ml

3) Priceless

Really really good Brian, real artisan stuff. You could put that on your mantlepiece and see if anyone ever identifies it. LOL
