degassing

has anyone thought of using an aquarium water pump to degas a wash?

i think it would ork tbh, just rack the wash off and then pop the pump in it and as the wash went passed the impeller, it would degas, and it shouldnt take that long depending on how big the pump is.

discuss.

Might do mate but find the old degassing stick and a battery De Walt and it's done in no time

thats what i use now but iv got an old rc plane propeller with holes drilled into it and it works well.

i just thought of the pump being less hassle by just dropping it in for 20 mins or so and not having to stand over it.

I need to get myself some form of degassing stick I can put in my drill, especially for larger wash's over 25litres.

I'm thinking add turbo klar part a followed by a good drill powered degassing then part b later

Honest a stick on a drill for a minute or so is all you need as long as you've fermented out

If its not boy it gets lively lol

I use an aquarium air pump connected to bit of 1/4" stainless tube with a stainless air stone., I leave it running for 30 mins or so, then give it a blast with a paint mixer on the drill

Then I just stick the tube in the dishwasher.


I use the same set up for aerating the wash before pitching.

My wash sits around to settle for a few days after it has finished fermenting. By the time it gets into the boiler there is no need to degas.

Similar with me. The wash gets run between 4 and 7 weeks after starting it. (Multiple fermenters.) By then it is clear and the syphoned wash only foams up a little when I pour it into the T500. I've also stopped using distillers conditioner.
