Recent troubles on the forums
Hi all,
As some of you may be aware, there have been some disputes recently on the forums. Unfortunately, one of our (now ex) members decided that the mature way of dealing with these was to ban a load of users and delete a lot of posts, as well as sending me an abusive message.
I have re-instated the users who were banned incorrectly, but it's probably too much hassle to restore the deleted posts. I can only apologise for that and say that I really didn't expect that anyone on here would be so childish and destructive. You live and learn eh.
I have always been pleased that this forum has been a friendly and welcoming place to hang out, in fact that was the reason I started the site in the first place as an alternative to some of the beginner unfriendly forums out there. I clearly made a mistake in thinking that this dispute would be resolved between adults in a dignified fashion, which I suppose was naive. Never underestimate the stupidity of folk.
I hope that now the offending user has been removed, things can get back to normal around here and we can get on with making nice spirits and enjoying ourselves.
Thanks to Aidanmac who has been very understanding about the disruption and has dealt with it in a mature fashion.
If anyone wants to discuss this with me, feel free to send me a PM or e-mail.
Jimmy

Jimmy.
Have you done any backups of the phpbb database?
If so, a restore might recover the posts.
If you have not been doing, install this http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/auto_backup/
You can make it autobackup and email the DB to a gmail account meaning you can have a daily backup should the need arise where a member goes 'postal'.
Al, I'm saddened by what you have done.
Long live stillsmart.

Cheers Mozr, there were backups but not in a way that was easily restorable without major surgery on the forum, phpbb isn't great for granular restores. I like the plugin though, have installed it - to be honest I didn't realise quite how shonky phpbb is - I just assumed that there would be an admin undo option for mod actions but like the saying goes, that made an ASS out of U and ME. Well, more me than you, lol.
