Would anyone be interested in 23 litres of cherry vinegar?! :D

Is the stuff you get for baby bottles steriliser or sanitiser?

It was probably the most expensive wash I've done from raw ingredients costs so I'm really annoyed it's gone sour, as you can probably tell I'm one of those real vengeful "kill it with fire" kind of guys! ;D
Just bought a bottle of Milton & a bottle of dettol, I'll give it all a scrub & do a cheap wash in the bucket (maybe kale). If that goes bad too then I'll replace anything it's touched & try again! I better go find a nice fat crow to eat for all the times I chuckled at the beer brewers & their sanitation methods

bit late posting this ( 5 days )

hope it's ok posting seeing as I don't have a Air or T500 still

had 19ltr Elderberry wine made 2012 and 3 gallons Elderflower wine made 2014,never going to bottle or drink it, so to make some space in my man cave, also tipped in 6 bottles
elderberry wine,

thought I would put it through the pot, and make some brandy and age on cherry wood, as I did in 2009,

this is a pic of 250ml fores in front of parrot and in the collection jar are heads.
DSCI0086.JPG

finished up with 5lts 69% down to 40% = 50% and 3lr 40% down to 20% ish
plus heads, which will go in the VM with the other 3 gallons I have waiting to make into neutral,

the good 5ltrs I will run through the pot again at a drip on a sunny day, when the solar panels are giving me free energy. lol

Which won't make a difference unless it does the dishes at autoclave temperatures......... ;D

Are these things really that hard to kill?! It's all currently sitting in boiling water and dettol, I'll keep swilling it round until it's cool enough to put my hand in & scrub. Then it will get the Milton, if acetobacter is the 0.01 of things those 2 doesn't kill then it will have to be a new bucket....and some tears!

I don't use it often, but when I feel it is called for I use lots of Household bleach, and rinse well.
I don't consider Milton strong enough, the fact is that it used to /may still declsre itself "Safe" .

If you google for those who make booze, but also vinegar, they keep them well separated.

Besides, it's a bucket. It can be replaced for less than the cost of a batch of wash.

As to how hard can it be to irradicate ? Potentially as hard as some of the nastier bacteria like hospital acquired infections like MRSA - which is known for being persistent.......

I do make vinegar and I do keep MASSIVE OTT separation.

+1 Robert - I use chlorine tablets and 3 rinse thoroughly.

Its not that it is JUST so hard to kill, it getting into all the minute scratches/nooks/crannies.
Really buy another bucket and start making Vinegar with the old one :D

Commercial guys pump HP steam trough everything routinely to prevent infection. FK's what they do it they get one !.... I can find out the protocol if you want.

Today the sun shone in Scotland.
Many were taken by surprise and cowered inside their tenements, looking for SF32 sunblock, otherwise known as whitewash.
I took all my kit off and played at being the sort of builder that would feature on the tv program "Euro Trash" .
There are some benefits to living in the back of beyond!
I will admit that while for myself it was a pleasant day, it may be fortuitous that no deliveries were scheduled, as while we all own one, there are bodies, and there are bodies, mine, sadly, has probably passed it's best before date!

Today, I finally felt like my mashing procedure was becoming something almost natural & produced 25 litres of sweet water from 7kg of Château malt. Smells pretty good to me, just waiting for it to cool on the kitchen floor before I check the gravity & pitch yeast.
The little still found itself on cooking duty tonight, poor little thing hardly gets a rest!

not today but over the weekend I.......
Punched out the hole to make it bigger to modify the tap output (which I never used) to take a 1/2' thermo - I took the opportunity to re-insulate the boiler as after a couple of years of use it was looking a bit shabby.
Image

after that ran some gin.
hard botanicals in the boiler macerated for 30 hours, other botanicals in the basket.
ImageImage

Also got the time to bottle up some aged stock for gifts - I don't bother being as lavish for in the house - our "magic" gin bottle is probably pouring its 30th litre ;D
