Blimey, I've only just come back to this thread. Monty Python is not really my bag. Perhaps I'm too thick to get it. ;D

Got bottles from mate in Germany, cheap as chips, think they were chinese seconds, will do for me and I only wanted a couple of dozen, all for Xmas :)

Normally get the Ophir bottles off my publican mate but not had that many off him lately. Got thing about them apart from being a really good heavy duty bottle, the labels come off easy :)

Just read the OP again. Are the corks lifting or popping? Volume changes with temp, maybe the closures are not a good match for the bottles.

They were generally lifting, but one did shoot off and hit my mate on top of his napper and then caught in his hand :D

They seem OK ATM. I think there were three factors which I think you have highlighted all of them

1. Change in room temp. It's in mid 20'sC of an evening currently.
2. Maybe being a bit too generous when filling and not allowing room for expansion
and
3. The one you just mentioned, stoppers not being the best fit, though I don't think it's the stoppers more like the cheap chinky bottles maybe not offering the best of fits. Probably why I got them so cheap.

Not a lot I can do about 1 & 3 ATM but I reduced the amount of spirit down to the absolute base of the neck and they seem OK for now :)

You are bang on their. Pardon the pun.

You MUST have an air gap.
Air is compressable liquid isn't.

So you need to take a nip out of each of them.... Oh dear, tuff job ;D
