Having had several successful washes completed using Turbo stuff I thought I'd follow advice from this forum and do a Kale wash. Can somebody tell me, does the fermentation take longer this way? I used 100g kale (short cook and juice in the wash), 5k sugar and 1/2 tub Allinsons. That was 3 weeks ago and my last hydrometer reading showed I was only half way there. It still bubbles away merrily but previous washes in same temp completed in 14 ish days. Any suggestions?

How much and what yeast did you use ?

Extra week thus far over turdbos.....Don't see anything to worry about. Unless your're thirsty of course......

I would be slightly concerned
Such a brew is unlikely to convert a previous Turbo user.
I have never used Kale, my lentil washes are always done, (excepting one ) in two weeks or less.
Maybe you made a mistake, maybe you should consider a different neutral wash?

I always understood turdbos don't require any help in that area

My first kale wash took 18 days to finish .
sat in a fermentation fridge at a constant 28c +- 0.3 c using my inkbird 308 to control.thanks to the help on this site it was the best spirit by far i have made in the short time i have been making it. second kale been on the go for 13 days now and still bubbling nicely.

As you seem not to understand packs, they sometimes do.
I always ran them with a constant heat source.

Barafundle, maybe stick with Kale.
Maybe follow the Phantom here
He has been using Turbos for many years.
And he is a very content moderator of this forum.

This thread has prompted me to add a signature.

So my first ever wash ....kale, has been happily bubbling away for 12 days now. The bubbles have slowed some but still going at a rate of 3 or 4 per minute .....I imagine it's not far off completion. Should I open up and give it a vigorous stirring and then leave till no more bubbles or just wait till no more bubbles and not stir?

I have read that after bubbles have finished you should leave it settled for 2 days before racking into the still leaving behind the lees......is that the best approach ?

Also the lees are presumably only gig for chucking out then?

At your stage of mashing,I would give it another day and rack off.
Leave a couple more days and hope that the still is there for you to rack into.
The lees from this wash are certainly waste.

Have you dropped a hydrometer in it?

If you rack it off. Be sure to to treat it like wine. No splashing and no air gap.

For me I wouldn't panic. Leave it a bit longer in primary. Undisturbed it will retain a co2 blanket to keep it safe.

Still bubbling.......took a small sample from the top and tested it on the refractometer and its reading 23%. ,!! Quite chuffed with that

NO-ONE can ferment Kale to 23%.
