Just bought a sack of malt and I'm excited :-)

Postby Anavrin » Wed Sep 16, 2015 9:11 pm

Hi Guys

All this talk of Spiedel Braumeister's and wanting to build one myself has got me wanting to brew beer again, it's been a couple of years since I did a AG Brew, so yesterday I picked up a 25kg sack of Marris otter, some crystal malt, a few different hops and some Nottingham Yeast, can't wait to get brewing, I've even cleared out my guarage ready for a brew day.

I think I'm going to start with a good old TTL clone and then an American IPA, (bought some Chinook hops) so I might just brew a single malt brew and use only chinook hops , see how it turns out, hopefully I'll get my RIMS mash tun built and tested on Saturday, ready to play with for a brew day on Sunday :)

That's all folks

Well done that man....10/10 I know how your feeling, I had 2 Braumeister kits and a whole lot of grain & hops sent with my order. I hope to get the other kit done this weekend...it's great when your beer Mojo returns.

Yes mate.... "Old Bernard", but not for a while.

I got first place this year at the Homebrew festival in May for "Pale Ale & ESB" category.
Was well pleased. 8)

Yet another victim, been a lot of it going around this year John, not because you have this new toy to play with by any chance ?.
With me it has been all the time involved in setting up and cleaning the 3v system that upsets my mojo at times, have recently been thinking of investing in a GF for those I cant be arsed spending all day brewing moments, mind you when I do brew and I get that first hit of lovely aroma from the mash tun my mojo always returns ;) .

I wouldn't mind a go at Old Bernard if you don't mind sharing the recipe :)

I couldn't wait for my RIMS kit to turn up so I found myself with a mash on as I finished work early today, I've only done half a brew though, once I'd sparged and collected the wort in the boiler, I fitted the lid and left it to cool, I'll boil it tomorrow with the hops, I'm sure it'll survive until then :)

I did get my strike temp wrong, for some reason I had 72°c in my head but when I calculated it, it should have been 77°c and ended up taking kettles of water out, boiling it and pouring back in, had to boil 4 lots to get the temp up to 77°c, all I was thinking was, this will be so much quicker once I have a working RIMS setup and I can step mash etc.

On the plus side I remembered to fit the hop strainer in the boiler, something I've forgot to do on many occasions.

Found your Old Bernard with a quick Google, Cheers, I might have go on the next brew.

I was so not ready to start AG brewing again, haven't used the plate chiller for a couple of years, it looks a bit of a lash up but it did the job :)

Im going to spend the rest of the weekend sorting the brewery out and setting up a proper fixing for the plate chiller, I've not got my RIMS kit yet but my StillDragon orders arrived :)
