Newbie needs advice on JD
Hi everybody!
I have just found my new calling in life, I am now the proud owner of the turbo 500, why have I only just found out about this ultimate gadget?
Any who I have tried out a few of the essences out there and some are very very good, the wife loves the Blue Jewel Gin and the SS Triple Sec is a dead ringer for Cointreau.
The Jack Daniels ones however leave a lot to be desired. I have tried some Bourbon chunks that I did find pleasant enough but at £4 a bag for about 2 litres I thought there must be a better option so like a lot of you guys/gals out there have found some Jack Daniels wood smoking chips from B&Q for £6 for 1Kg - Happy days, now I'm pretty sure you must be able to get something close to JD by knowing the right proportion of chips vs time soaking in 40% abv
I understand that taste is of course subjective but the one thing that is constant is the flavour of genuine JD so therefore all the JD seekers out there must be united in the flavour they seek.
I have started with just under 2 Litres of spirit at 40% made from SS turbo yeast classic as I was told that one is better for dark spirits, 100g of JD chips for 2 weeks
I just thought rather than me spend weeks/months/years trying to get the right balance I thought I would ask you guys for your best recipe results using the same chips as I and then I could try your recipe and only improve and save myself a whole lot of time in what can be seen as the holey grail of flavours.
I look forward to sharing your knowledge in my new found hobby
