I grew up with the phrase,--waste not, want not.
Oh,granny, you lead me down a stoney path.....

Put together another 50L batch of Apple Pie. Young or old, male or female, everyone loves it. Amazed the hell out of me.

There's no accounting for taste and if it's good...it's good and your Apple Pie is clearly a winning recipe. There's an old North English saying "
there's nowt so queer as folk" (hope I got that right) If they like it why question it, just enjoy the rewards

I decided to change the display in my power controller from LCD to LED. As I like to solder all the wire ends I set up the soldering iron whilst super glueing a new terminal block the the inside of the box lid.
I forgot the iron was hot when I touched it and burnt my fingers, whilst pulling my hand back, I knocked over the super glue, in the panic to pick up the bottle before it all ran out, I put my other hand in the spillage before picking up a screwdriver, need I say more.
From here on the day has got better, despite having no fingerprints.

Today I ran my still for only the 4th time, disregarding a couple of cleaning runs way back.
Have probably owned it for close on 10 years. Lot of that time I was working where any carry on like this would have guaranteed me pride of place on front page of morning newspaper, heavy fine then deportation.
Couple of TPWs and a combined re-run previously; today's was Weet bix and All-bran, 23l that came down to 19l @ racking, having finished @13.3%AV.
Got interested in this wash as on another forum they really went ape$hit over the 'whisky' flavour...... Yeah, right......
Cuts Rn't us - but I had a try and got what I think were reasonable hearts out, of 1.8l @60%. And there was a whisky facsimile there. Really amazed. So I'm keeping that for a taste session, sometime. Might try the onion skin trick to give it a bit of colour, even.
Tossed the foreshots, but have another 1.725l of hooch to recycle for a neutral.
Gotta start somewhere, figures mightn't be much but am happy with my day.

Yes, the breakfast cereal washes taste like something, but it is not like any whiskey I have tasted. Aging on toasted oak makes a big difference. A lot of whiskey flavour comes from the barrel it is aged in.
Where were you working that distilling was illegal? Must not have been NZ. The Middle East would be my guess.

Given the PDA-1 is a good stripper, I was interested to see if I could get any flavour carry-over, which it did, as per Ian Smiley's test.
I'll smarten up on cuts, then I can get on with AG and try to get close to something real.
In the midst of this I've located sweetfeed in country; had never previously come across the term prior, so this is a 'soon' to do.
If I find I don't like the flavour, pack the column and start refluxing.
Haven't forgotten about kale either, just not in season presently.

Well I had a bunch of Sherry that had become a little too strong for the missus and me and a little of rye that didn't taste good so I decided to put it into the boiler and see what comes out.... Well I got 3.5 litres of neutral at 75% and proceeded to take it to 40% filtered it through a snake and now have a nice amount of filtered neutral this is my first time trying this. Pretty cool that you can fix your screw ups like this.
I have a wash that has been sitting for about a month nw supposed to be one of the best commercial washes I will run it soon and let you know how it did.
Wish me luck...Goin-in.....
