Racking
What would you guys say is the best method to rack from fermenter to fermenter and then to the still.
I have tried pouring and siphon (me sucking on the end of a hose). I have tried the jiggers for fuel in my ride on, but never had much success with them.
I have a spare inline 12v pump that I was thinking of trying next.

I just take it out from the tap.it has usually been sitting for a few days after degassing before i rack into another container where i add the clearing then and let sit for a few days.
After degassing it though,i sit the fermenter on an inch thick plank of wood,so it is leaning, just so most of the sediment tends to drop towards the rear,as far from the tap as possible. It lets me take as much of the clear wash as possible.

I have a racking cane with a small cup type part on the end which avoids disturbing the sediment - it fits nicely through the bung in the lid of my fermenters and by placing these onto a Black and Decker style workmate I use gravity to siphon off. Seems to work OK, if I had a fermenter with a tap I would probably prefer that method but it does the job.

If you set the fermenter up somewhere before degassing and adding clear where you wont have to disturb it again, you will have a better chance of not getting any sediment into your still. When i degas it usually sits at the end of the desk it is on until i clean it out when im finished,it doesnt move from there.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking along the same lines as to have the fermenter tilted back and allow to settle before racking off. My triple distilled is done, so I will add the clear tonight. I don\'t have the second fermenter yet, so I will just rack off into the still and back into the fermenter once I have cleaned it out. This will help to degas it anyway. Lucky the T500 has a tap on it.
