Maiden run on the BM 20 got it started to warm the liquor...left it alone for a few minutes went back to the brew-house to find it dead as a Dodo...

Check the power lead with a meter to find that was the problem....smegging fuse had burnt out. :o

Image

just looked at the spec's in the manual and it says that a min 10amp fuse should be fitted to a 20 L....so who do you think should get the email about selling a item with a 5 amp fuse, no wonder the plug got warm.

Just mashed ready for the off.

Any way, alls well now...I'm sat in the outhouse at the moment with a bacon butty & a cuppa...and it's 30 mins into a 60 boil.

I'm loving this, what a difference to running a 3v setup...

Well that's almost done.. :) sat here watching the temp fall like a stone.....down at 23c already, this big chiller that I built for my large boiler just fits but boy does it work well.
Down 22c.....will drop into the FV any time now.. the malt pipe has been cleaned already along with filters...fermenting fridge is set at 18c waiting for the FV....all's well with me.

Nice one BJ. I did not think you would have time to start this new project at this time of the year. You must have sorted out the allotment early this year. Image

If it came with a plug in kettle lead with a fixed plug on the end, I'd get Brew UK to supply a new cable assembly, they can sort the cost out with Spiedel under warrantee.

I've just emailed both BrewUK & Speidel with the problem....it could be a fire hazard if they are sending out units with the wrong size fuse. In all the reading up on BM I've never come across this fault from anyone, it could be a one off.

I run a 80/60/80 litre 3v system but have been toying with buying a GF, mainly because it would be simple to do a brew on those days we all get free at short notice, the 3v just takes to long to get ready to brew at the drop of a hat, would love a BM but couldn't justify spending a grand or more on one .

I came to the same thoughts as you Optic...I found myself finding excuses not to fire up the 3v. It also sat heavy with me about the price, I couldn't justify the cost either, it was only a passing remark from my good lady about one that finely cleared it with me to buy one.

They are that. I found myself putting off a brew when I was 3v but now look forward to it AND have a much better variety of beer to hand.
