Undisoved Sugar?

Postby Bottleofrum » Fri Mar 19, 2010 7:31 pm

Hello all,
I wonder if you can help me, About a month ago I bottled some of my spirits for example my Amerreto with half the SS base, but as time has gone on there appears to be (only way i can describe) little bits maybe undisoved sugar at the bottom, the question is, I mix my spirits with an electric blender for quite some time and make sure that all the sugar has disoved, why after a short period of time this happens? It looks quite off putting when I pour out a drink. Is there any way to prevent this? Thanks for your help.

Undisoved Sugar?

Ive had the same trouble when i have used a blender/mixer to try and mix in either sugar or the SS base mixes,it seems to me although you would think that would be the best method it dont seem to work very well, ive found IMO the best way is to put the base mix or sugar in a 1.5 ltr bottle with your spirit and just shake the hell out of it for several minutes,or you could try the essencia base mixes which are in a liquid form and come in a 1 ltr bottle and there is no need to add any sugar or cream if its one of the cream bases,my HB shop had some delivered yesterday but they had not got the invoice for them so didnt know how much they would be,next time i go i will get one,i think they are around the £4 mark which is not bad as each bottle makes 2 ltrs

Optic, can you post a link to the home brew shop that keeps the essencia stuff as I\'ve only seen essencia stuff shown by their facebook page and not seen any of the UK HBS\'s advertising it.

Undisoved Sugar?

Postby Bottleofrum » Tue Mar 30, 2010 11:48 am

Im still getting that problem that I thought was undisoved sugar in a

bottle of vodka I made, Im really stuck for ideas now, could it be the water?(TAP)

or the essence it self?(Vodka) or even my spirit??(40% carbon filtered) I dont want to show of my creations now as it looks so off putting to see little bits in the drink.

Can anyone help me on this or help me to prevent this? Thanks in advance.

Try running it through a coffee filter that should take any bits out without affecting the taste,
