Hi guys - I've been following the iStill SSP posts and am tempted. I'm assuming that I'd use a SS scrubber top and bottom and copper SSPs - is that right? Has anyone already used them with a T500 column? Will 1 litre be enough? Will I stop asking questions?

After consulting Odin from iSTILL, my T500 is packed with SS SPP. I stripped my T500 down and fitted 1 copper scrubber to the bottom of the condenser coil by making an offset hole in it and sliding it up the reflux cooling tube, thus completely stopping SPP geting into the coil, filled it with SPP and held it in place with half of a SS scrubber at the bottom. The T500 will take just over half a litre of SPP to fill it. I did not put anything else in the column. DO NOT USE COPPER SPP (iSTILL recommendation)

The T500 is very easy to strip down.
1. remove the top "U" pipe.
2. undo the 4 screws holding the black plastic condenser brackets.
3. Ease off the condenser.
4. Pull off the plastic water outlet and undo the brass nut underneath it.
5. Push the brass union of the reflux condenser into the column hole.
6 Gently pull the reflux condenser up and out of the column.
7. DO NOT REMOVE THE METAL STAR CLIP FROM THE TOP OF THE REFLUX CONDENSER WHERE IT PASSES THROUGH THE PLASTIC CAP.
Always give the hardest job to the laziest person because they will always find the easiest way to do it.

Thanks Vino - I'm surprised about the SS SPPs, but if that's what you and Odin recommend, who am i to argue? Thanks for the really detailed talk though too - extremely useful!

Could you use copper saddles? if the copper scrubber is better is there a UK supplier? I know its available from US suppliers but have never seen it in UK HBS

Good crack Vino Thanks.
Regards Lucky.

This is the one I use, they are 100% copper made from machine shavings

Apparently some who have ordered from my link have not received pure copper scrubbers as I did.
When I received mine I tested them with a very powerful 5X magnet to make sure they were not ferrous. I have done several runs with mine and done 1 strip down with no problems.
In the event of this supplier not providing the same product as they did me, I can no longer recommend this link.
EDIT: On checking my invoice, Amazon has changed the supplier on the advert

RE copper scrubbers. I too ordered several so called copper scrubbers and they were just copper coloured. The only ones that tested as pure copper with the magnet test was http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spic-Span-Chore ... +Scrubbers
