I did the first brew last Sat, a Mosaic IPA..I hit the mark of 1.064

Image

I've just run it into a 2nd bucket as some of the hops got through and I didn't want it OTT on hops.....in fact taste is right on the button, even my good lady likes it and she not a fully payed up member of the beer drinking gang.. Image

I checked it and it's down to around 1.020..at the moment that's 5.7%....as it's my maiden run with the BM I'm chuffed. ;) I'm now wondering how far down it will finish??

Hi Icefever

Glad your shiney piece of German Engineering is hitting the numbers, my rather rusty first attempt back at AG didn't go quite so well, somewhere I lost 6 litres of wort!!!!

I used 13 litres in the mash tun for just under 5kg of grain, then fly sparged with another 23 litres, after a 90 minute boil I had only 19 litres @ 1.052 when I wash hoping for 25 litres at 1.042!!!

The sight glass on my HLT is marked in 5 litre steps so I'm guessing I miss read it when sparging, that or the losses during the boil seem to have gone up massively since I last used the boiler.

The wort was clear, tasted nice and it'll fit in a cornie keg at least, I dont mind a stronger beer so long as it's not too bitter, time will tell I guess.

Wow...6 litres of wort is a hell of a loss...sorry to hear that....but if you finish up with a beer that is drinkable, and the taste fits what you want....hell walk away smiling and say that's what you aimed for.. :D :D
that what I've done in the past. ;)
I'm supposed to dry hop this brew...but it's where I like it to be, taste wise so I'm leaving well alone.

I bought a little mesh golf ball thingy for dry hopping the other day, I'm going to make an American IPA which will be quite hoppy, I'm not normally a fan of really hoppy beers but the American hops have a real fruity citrus edge to them and it's quite nice one you get your head around the fact it meant to taste like that!!

Come visit the Pacific Northwest (Portland to Vancouver) if you want lots of citrusy hops! Myself, I am very much over that love affair. Give me a nice malty beer where I can taste the grains and other ingredients. ;D Oh, and one that does not give me a stomach ache after two pints.

I built an in-line fuel filter thingy with a stainless scrubber in it. Fits on the syphon hose to catch the last few blighters.

Will have to check this brew later, should be damn near finished by now. I need the brew fridge for next Friday...that's the 2nd brew day, going to follow a friends clone recipe for Pelforth Brune. ;)
