Re-using wood products

I haven't noticed this being mentioned - probably wasn't paying attention ::)

How often do you re-use your wood, whether it is sticks, chips or something else.

I imagine there might come a point when you wish to re-toast your wood. I get the impression most folks use and discard, and then buy new. Is that what you do?

I think it depend on the thickness of the wood and the source. For JD barrel chips, I use them once, then three times the amount for the second use. For my home made toasted Oak sticks (1cm x 1cm x 20cm), I discard them after the third usage, or char them throughly for that aspect. Each usage needs more sticks to get the same effect.

Good answer. I am about the same with dominoes. Use twice then retoast. I mix mine with new.

Too expensive to discard.
