i got some wood smoking chips from here http://www.planetbarbecue.co.uk/shopwoodchips.html cos i seen it posted in a thread by jimmy
i got Jack Daniels Wood Smoking Chips and some Glengourmet Whiskey Smokies Barbecue Chips (which is on page 2)

the jd was a 1kg pack and the whiskey chips was 400gms ordered early doors wednesday got them today all because of this... From Tuesday 18th Dec All orders will be sent by next day recorded courier at no extra charge.

when i was looking at the glengourmet one i noticed they came from a few miles from me (which i might call round if they any good)

i got 1 1/2 bottles of neutral spare that im tempted to use on the jd chips
or there again i might get a wash made up and dedicated that wash for me jd

I just re-read the thread you asked about and there's really not much I can add that's not there already except;
(1) if you can leave the spirit on the JD wood chunks up to 8-10 weeks the result is exceptional and
(2) before adding the JD chunks to your spirit you should rinse them thoroughly to get rid on sawdust and ash powder. I use a big sieve and run loads of water over them. This makes for a cleaner end product.

Good luck with them ;)

Be carefull with the Glengourmet chips I tried some of those and the end result was disgusting and only got worse the longer the spirit was soaking on them,so would suggest only soaking a very small ammount of spirit on them for a start.The rest of my bag,well it got used up as intended on the barbeque.

That's looking really good Alan.

I normally use much more wood than you have in that jar to get that colour and the right flavours in a shorter time - 3-5 days - and I've been thinking recently I should use less wood and more time as I'm not in a rush these days - plenty of stock in hand. ;) ;)

It's just a bad habit that's developed over time.
