For me the 'cleanest spirit' after quite some testing... is kale and bread yeast.

I keep seeing posts about Kale wash, tell me, is it that good.
We used to just feed it to the cattle, now you buy it in shops.

In trials, for me it came up with the cleanest neutral...

Just downloaded your recipe and going to ASDA this week for the Kale.
I'll give anything a go to improve the quality.

Re: Turbo Yeasts
Believe me, VT it works a treat...I had my doubts but no longer, I use it in my GS washes.
It seems the kale has all the nutrients the little yeasties want.

The main thing is, can I make bubble & squeak with the greens afterwards.

OK, so I guess that I could make Dhall with the spent Lentils from my neutral washes, but the chucks seem to have so much fun pecking them up, I hate to deprive them.

Re: Turbo Yeasts
With regards original topic, a few of us sometimes use Alcotec vodka star, which is not exactly a turbo but does have nutrients included in the sachet with the yeast and produces good results and still pretty quick.
It claims 14% abv from 5kg of sugar in 5 days. Calling it 7 days including a bit of clearing time makes it handy to put on one weekend, ready for distilling the next.

Re: Turbo Yeasts
Back in the days that I joined this site, I did discover that if I allowed a few more days, a Turbo pack could sort out twice the volume of mash.
That halved the cost, and brings it to just above the cost of my current neutral wash.
The current wash I do not wait to clear before stripping, the Turbo I always did.
I think the current one tastes better.
Maybe I should try anther turbo and strip it cloudy as fair comparison?

Re: Turbo Yeasts
The turbo 48 is still going to be a little funky in my opinion.
I'd try the vodka star with half a packet. With half a packet it'll have less krausen than you're used to with lentils but will fizz away happily.
I bought 10 packets for £28 because it was free delivery across the Irish sea. I'm sure there are better deals than that.
Gaza and Phantom both use it too.

Re: Turbo Yeasts
Nice! If that includes delivery to mainland UK then I think it's great.
In my mind I think 50p for bread yeast and another 50p for nutrient which could be tomato paste or lentils or kale or whatever (roughly) for 25 litres. I buy nutrient in local home brew shop for roughly £1.50 which is a lot of spoonfuls of dap (dap = nutrient)
Call that a quid and a bit and appreciate I'm going to get hit for postage on not supermarket stuff and £1 for natural yeast and nutrient per litre versus £3 for a non nasty turbo that is designed for but will do maybe 50 litres suddenly seems like a good deal.
Either way, call it 45p x 6 for sugar and £2.80 for vodka star and 90p for lidl spring water for spirit run and a random guess of £1 for electric. That's £7.40 which I imagine is on the high side for a strip run.
That's easily 5 litres of lovely home vodka at say £1.50 a litre compared to £15 a litre at cheapest supermarket price and we all know it's way better than much more expensive shop stuff.
When I bought a T500 still and pot head last week, it was £280. My first spirit run (half a tank) produced approximately 5 litres of way better than shop booze. Approximate cost as mentioned above and that was a half run.
I guess it'll take me three runs to recoup my money?
