Just got back from the HB shop and picked up a pack of Smart Parts Smart Pad copper mesh, I got it because there was a minimum spent on cards - lol
What is it ? and what can I do with it ?
Regards
Ian
Edit :-
I found this :-
http://shop.stillshop.co.uk/index.php?p ... &parent=17Not sure how to use it, do I put it in the white cup where the carbon goes and if so do I use carbon. Or should I use carbon and then re-distil through the copper ?
Can you get copper poisoning from this ?

Hi Ian, i use copper in my still iv got a dozen or so 1in, peaces of 15ml pipe to act as boiling rings.after acouple of runs they go from bright an shinny to very dark and covered in a grey black film ive been told it helps to get rid of any unwanted metals in the wash plus also gives better flavor

It sounds that way, how many times can you use it for, and do you need to clean it ?

I clean mine with VWP cleaner/steriliser from the HBS. just add2tsp to apint of hot water you dont even need to take them out of the still just leave to soak for 2/3hours then rinse out it keeps the still nice and fresh i use it to clean the condencer as well

Yeah it goes in the still, and part of the 'legit' uses for distilling is to remove heavy metals (like copper) from a solution, so any copper in the still does not transfer into the spirit, don't worry! It's often used to pack the column in a reflux column still.
