I was in Wilkos today looking in the HB section and they now have 5 litre glass kilner jars with a tap on the bottom for £20, should think they would be ideal for ageing with oak chips .

Thanks for that, been waiting for them to be re-stocked for ages, by the way they are 8 litres with a stainless steel tap.

Damnit! No Wilkos for 500 miles I've been looking for something like that for a very long time and the biggest I've been able to get is 3Ltr

BTW Commiserations or Congratulations to our real Scottish brothers (& Sisters, of course) on the result of your referendum - depending on which side of the debate you're on.

Now if only Ireland could secure it's independence from Berlin Some chance

To be honest I didn't look very hard at the capacity, that was a bit of a guess when I got home, yep the tap looks nice and sturdy and there was only one of them on the shelf, just one per store perhaps ? .

I ordered one online http://www.wilko.com/homebrew-accessori ... MST=Kilner and I can collect at my local store. They will deliver for £3.50.

Will have to add that to my wish list :-)

I'm off to places where Wilko exist soon,might have to bag some of these,if I can.

Beware the taps.I don't think they are S/S I was looking at them today and they seem to be some kind of coated metal with a plastic inner sleeve. I will get one maybe 2 but i need to decide on a suitable tap for it. Might ask my son in law as he works with S/steel. The 8 ltr capacity got my attention as i need to sort some kind of storage system out, im fed-up trying to decant out of 1ltr kilners, i seem to spill more than the Angels share

Used to have the same problem but simple solution was to tip 1Lt Kilner contents into a stainless steel jug I bought from IKEA for a few quid. the angles have gone thirsty since then

I picked up my Kilner jar from Wilko's today. What a disappointment, the tap and fitting is plastic.
The jar does not hold a 8 litres, it is 100ml shy and the tap leaks with just 2 litres in the jar. It will be returned tomorrow.

just seen summat similar to these but these are called lemonade jar. it has a plastic tap
and only hold about 3 to 3.5lts. these are in sainsbury at £15 the missis said it should be
ok to hold and dispense wine il wait a bit before I get one
