Anyone got any ideas regarding flaked crops
Corn, Wheat or Maize ?
Have a local supply and cheap.
Make Vodka with the Wheat.
Rather have a full bottle in front of me
than a full frontal lobotomy

Buy a GF and mash for whiskey !!

Many farmer will sell at the gate.

Never mash more that 50% wheat in the mix else it will clog seems to be popular advice.

All at £8 per 25KG from local supplier.
Get my molasses off them too. That is
pure cane molasses 64% sugar nothing
added 4ltrs for £6, so I add 1 per wash.
Getting a good result with flaked
wheat to make Vodka. Just wondering
what I could make with Maize or Corn ???

That looks like a mighty fine price for molasses :)

Dunno about 4ltrs for £6, but I've delivered 1000litre IBC's of molasses for animal feed.

Most agri feed suppliers would be able to supply many of the common grains in flaked form. But is "flaked" necessary if it still needs to be milled into "grist" form ? Surely just whole grain milled to grist would do and not have a middle man charge included for crushing to flake ?

Oh and you'd need to pick their brains some as there's often other stuff added for nutritional value that you might not want in a mash.........

Ah, ok that's fair enough.

Been thinking of seeing if I could get one of those small hand mills to give it a try. I don't do grain per se (apart from delivering malt by the tonne to local craft breweries).....

But would like to give it a try......

It is still the molasses grabbing my attention here.

Maybe throw the cereals to the four winds?

But DO play to your hearts contentment.

There are many ways to do anything.

It sure does make a flavoursome Rum.
On the strip run it has a golden hue.
Gone on spirit run but smell is
awesome. 6-8 weeks ageing in some
Oak a little tweaking and yummie :)

Assuming that you are talking Molasses here, and not cereals, which will work, but in these days of cheap sugar why would you?
Unless striving for a possible flavoured wash?
Potato, rice, grain washes existed for the reason that it was the cheapest wash available in the locale.
Forget region and artisan, back when, it was how many units of spirit can we make from what we have?

Simples.
