I keep breaking them. I always seem to need 1 more than the number I actually have

Groan/cringe........
The usual 2 for spirit and 2 for beer/wine/wash.......
But I also have about a half.dozen that I picked up by virtue of size. About 5 inches long, so can often be.dropped into.a.live.ferment, whether it be bucket, carboy or demi-john and left in for the duration a la parrot for fermenting.......

My box has a sat-on complexion but 'they' are brill.
Mine came from ebay... £2.79.

The ebay ones are the same as the SD ones, I'm going to order a few bits from SDEurope, so I was thinking of just adding them on, although my wife to be is spending my money fast!! I better order something soon before she's spent it on wedding stuff!!!!

I try to keep a hydrometer for the washes and a spirit one for the more interesting stuff, plus a back up for each.
I recently broke the wash one,and am now using a veritable antique, but it is rather cute.
Time to buy another methinks.
I had a friend who used to claim to "Never run out of anything" -
Meaning always have more than you need!
Of course, there is always the question of accuracy with cheap ones, but if they compare well with a known brand,or you can allow for any error, then they are a sealed unit and will be consistent and should serve you well.
My next may come from Chinaland.
Robert.

I am interested to see if the lower range work on wine/beer be handy if they did. Might give it a go tonight.

Apart from a few spares, I have 3 in use. Spirit, wash and a floating dairy thermometer. Not a hydrometer but as temperamental. Far better than one you have to hold onto.
