I wasn't sure when I first seen your setup how it would work but now I'm liking it a lot with the seperate columns and drains, when I add more plates to my setup I might go down the same road with a seperate packed column

Sounds good anavrin!. just realized I havnt updateD this in a while lol. Have done lots of runs now and very happy with it!, Also did some speed testing, rum at 90% at 3.7lph, and neutral at 96% at 4.2lph.

Can I ask what the diameter of your main columns are in mm?

SD have brass 4 inch easy flange's, they state there for 105mm copper but The closest I can find is 108mm which is too big

Anarvin, sorry i forgot about this. I checked the 4" brass ferule dimensions and the outer dia of the socket part is the same diameter as the outside of the 108mm tube. If you cut a 2" length of 108mm tube and cut out a slither so it fits inside the copper tube, that bit will now fit just right inside the ferrule. Have 1" in the ferrule and 1" inside the copper tube.

That is an impressive build. Good to look at and more importantly good functional versatile design. Hight problem? What hight problem? Well done.

While doing multi column why not a small LM first column to compress and remove heads without them ever reaching the rest of the still? Or would that just be superfluous with the way it already runs? 96% neutral is top notch. Puzzled why that ran faster than the 90% though?

Thanks ant. A small lm before would be counter productive. If you add a packed section to plates, as if you added extra height to an existing column, you'll get more speed and higher purity.

Yes I get that. That is why I made a bubble ball to go under SPP.

I may have missed the exact configuration you used on each run to explain why the 90% was slower. I'll reread.

Why would an LM be counter productive? People rave about it's unrivalled heads compression. Seems to be it's best feature after easy to make. I get the extra stage would slow things down but is it worth that to mimimise your losses to heads?

Ah of course. You just use the plates for rum. Both for neutral. Silly me. Didn't think that through the first read.
