Stacking alcotec 48...
I got pair of 60 litre fermenters a couple of weeks ago.
The idea was to make up 45/40 litres of molasses wash (it only ferments down to about 10% so you need a lot...) in one and keep the other one to rack it into once it had finished.
Chucked the molasses wash on but then I noticed in my yeast box that I had an alcotec 48 sat there..
Got another 48 from Ellie, got some cheap sugar from the supermarket (48p a kilo) and stacked two alcotecs into the \'spare fermenter\'.
I read on the alcotec site that it\'s best to only use 6kg of sugar per packet of yeast so I settled on 13 kg of sugar in 50 litres of water.
I was a little concerned about the low ambient temperatures at the moment as both my wash heaters are in use but according to the alcotec site the 48 will not only ferment as low as 15 degrees but as it takes longer the product will be better... Win!
Pitched it on monday night with an OG of 1092, it\'s been fermenting very well - the entire house has a very sweet smell at the moment. The wash is still bubbling but I took the SG tonight and it\'s down to 1010 already - so that\'s 50 litres of 11%...
I\'m hoping it gets down to about 0998 which after racking will be about 48 litres of 13%.
