the thirsty arm of the law
much as i admire aidan and yhb's creations
(the latters looking like something middle ages heretics were dispatched with)
i can't help but love the anonymity of the airstill
should the local constabulary ever have cause to visit my premises - i will find it much easier to blend said still into the cupboard with the bread makers , steamers and yoghourt emporiums herself has late night tv purchased
anyhoo
thats enough from me
there's a knock at the door

I do not know if that is a complement or not? - not to worry I am chuffed with it.
I have never knocked the airstill it is a wonderful machine. If I could have afforded one at the time I probably be sat with a supply of booze in the cupboard rather than still waiting in anticipation.

YHB
your wooden creation is such a thing of beauty i wouldn't know whether to brew with it or throw scatter cushions on it
believe me
it's a compliment
i've shown the pictures to quite a few people
one being a home-brewer cabinet maker who said it was as i said above "a thing of beauty"
so
bloody well done you
and as hughie green used to say
i mean that most sincerely folks

No offence taken - I never actually finished the post, I had to go on a school run, tried to "save" but published instead.
Your post was about keeping a low profile and being able to hide the equipment.
I have thought about this one a few times and keep changing my mind. Is it better to make one large batch once in a while and dismantle the equipment when not in use?. Or to have a small, virtually continuous process that requires the equipment on show for longer periods and therefore increases the risk of accidental discovery?
My boiler blends in with other brewing paraphanalia in the shed, the still head removes in less than a minute and can be in the pack of the wardrobe just as quick.
I see the biggest problem is going to be what to do with the stock and the stuff that is aging, how do you camoflage yours?

Stout - I know what you are saying but it really does take quite a lot to bring the coppers to your door - and even more to have them looking through your stuff.
If someone has made some lifestyle choices that regularly brings the boys in blue with a warrant to their door, then having a big still set up in their kitchen is probably not in their best interest.
Most folks on here seem a friendly bunch interested in making a nice drink, and I would be surprised if the above would apply to many/any - but who knows.
I know that my big column works better than my T500 did - and my big boiler seems to work better than my small boiler when pot stilling. If you are not getting yourself in to trouble elsewhere then I think it is highly unlikely anything would ever come of it. Like most things in life its a calculated risk, up to each individual to make.
