Turbo still 500
Welcome Turps. I also use the turbo 500 and very pleased with it. I only throw the first 100mls and have barely no odour either. I only run mine for about 3.5hrs after heat up and get 3.6lts every time. I\'m sure I could get more, but on tank water and for the extra few mls for me its not worth it. I have to get another pump as the tank water pressure pump cuts in and out casing a 3 deg temp swing. I also run mine at 53-57 deg.

Anyone know if you can use the Turbo 500 as pot still also? I\'d like to buy one but also interested in making whiskey etc (without usign post mix flavourings) so I was wondering if the reflux section can be removed?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Nice vids
Seeing the column being loaded with ceramic saddles makes me wonder what would happen if you use rashig rings or even pot scrubbers in place of the saddles.

the ceramic saddles are cuppled, it helps to reflux the alco more effectively apparantly
not sure if the copper saddles are shown in the vids, they are curved in shape aswell
I guess stainless scourer would work depending how compact they were

The copper things I got in my kit were flat, like thick sheet cut into little bits.

G-Day again.
I have now put 3 washes through T500,
1st was : 8 kilo dextrose, + samuel willards original temp tolerant yeast
then cleared with stillspirits turbo clear 2 part pack after 5 days
this produced 3.8L of 95% spirit after discarding first 250ml
this was very clean odourless & sweet to taste
a burn test produced no smoke & nice orange flame (a test an old distiller friend swears by).
2nd was : same as 1st except I used 7 kilo sugar instead of dextrose
this produced 3.5L of 94% spirit after discarding first 200ml
this was clean odourless but not as sweet to taste
3rd was : again the same as first except I used 7 kilo dextrose instead of 8 kilo
this produced 3.7L of 95% spirit after discarding first 200ml
this was very clean odourless & sweet to taste
I could have got another 500ml or so but got tired of waiting to finish & shut it down a bit earlier
P.S 1st batch was 3.8L not 3.9L as stated in my previous post.
