Downside is that a pallet - about 2000 lbs (40 x 50 lb bags)- costs roughly $1500
But that is just 46p per lb. Certified organic raw cane sugar.
That's a nice idea Myles, and I would certainly be up for a couple of units.
Sadly,I think the hassle of organising such a mass purchase, would prove to be a major headache.Especially with the re-distribution within the UK after delivery.
I could push myself to buy and store 10% of a pallet,if someone organised it.
Sounds like the ideal product to make Cachaca, and costing much less than golden syrup.
Evaporated cane syrup versus processed sugar beet seems a non-brainer to me.
Absolutely no way I have space now;but if you would care to post or send a link, this time next year,I could possibly stow a whole pallet.
Meanwhile,I'll try a google.
And miss the obvious joke about what else sugardaddy might send from Columbia.
Nice post,thank you.
Robert.

I mostly use demerara sugar - it too is raw cane sugar - less processed than white sugar. Wait until the supermarkets have bogof offers and stock up. you are making a lot of fruit cakes. Or try to get it in bulk.
Most brown sugar is just coloured white sugar, but demerara is the real stuff.

use Corn Sugar only. Regular sugar just makes off flavours. Go to you brew shop buy the 50LB bag for about 30$-40$ it will make 3 batches when using the Triple distilled yeasts.

For those who make rum, you need to use a sugar that is sugar cane based. You can make all kind ethanol from palm sugar, beet sugar, etc. but not a rum.

Don't know how I missed this till noow(leaving in this typo, just to make you feel better over yours).
Have to ask,how do you access this sugar?
Vancouver mafia connection?
I would have to spend circa US$1500 to do so.
You are running a small still and could run for years on that amount.
Are you familiar with the the brit phrase,green-eye?(jealousy),well jealous here mate, hope it turns out to be all that you hope for.

Re: Where can I get cheap sugar?
I asked Sugar Daddy about shipping to Canada and he gave me a great one-time deal (first hit is free
). But the border is only about a 30 minute drive away so in the future I will get it shipped to a pickup point in the US (very common practice giving the high shipping rates to Canada) and carry it across the border myself.

Re: Where can I get cheap sugar?
For us folks in the UK an alternative might be to use Demerara sugar but do take care.
Real demerara is a less processed, cane sugar, but some suppliers market white beet sugar that has been coloured with molasses.
You can get it in 25 kg sacks but sometimes it is cheaper with the supermarket special offers.

Re: Where can I get cheap sugar?
Able to get 50kg for £35. Works out at 70p/kg. Going to pick some up today.
e2a: just thought - by the time I factor in petrol and inconvenience, 87p/kg from the corner shop doesn't sound so bad, does it? ah...sheeesh.....
Has anyone recently hit lower than 60p/kg? What appears to be the lowest price?

Re: Where can I get cheap sugar?
Since I started this hobby I found the 5kg bags at Tesco the cheapest at £3.99 (80p per kg) In my job I get around cash & carry's and some will let you buy bits & bobs, but the sugar still works out more per kg.
I know it's a PITA..but we have to buy the stuff. On another forum that I'm on every now and then somebody will post that..Lidl-Aldi-Poundland have an offer on..when you get there it's all gone or the offer has finished.
It would be great to be able to buy in bulk for those of us who want to, but to quote Robert....
This was tried on a beer forum for Cornie kegs a few years back..I don't know if it was a success or not, it dragged on for ages, with folks "buying in" then others dropping out.

To save anyone else looking it up 10 Canadian Dollars is 5.55 UK Pounds. Which works out as 0.56 pounds per kilo. It looks good, I am still trying to work out the delivery charges but my calculator does not seen to have enough zero's.
