Re: Teddy's Fast Fermenting Vodka
Still waiting. All done now, but its in the queue behind the easy gin and some working alcohol.
If the weathers good tomorrow I might get it through the twintub.

Re: Teddy's Fast Fermenting Vodka
I've just checked up on my first bash at Teddy's. Started on Sunday as noted earlier up the thread. Original SG was 1.06 - it's now down to around 1.0 and a bit so it'll finish either tomorrow or Saturday.
It's in competition with the Wonderful Wheat Wash, but the winner will be based on quality of end product, not speed of fermentation, because the tweaks I've made to the WWW with pH buffers etc reliably get a 1.08SG wash complete in five to six days.
The jury is out!
Cheers

Well the kale is done.
Taste test. All good. It is the first spirit I have finished that tastes sweet. Nice. But bizarre.

I hadn't logged it as sweet so that's a take to revisit...it is tho' a whole lot different (IMO) from some of the other's out there for a neutral.
I seldom take myself seriously....

Yes indeed.
Quite smooth too. Doesn't seem to have a "first sip bite"

Re: Teddy's Fast Fermenting Vodka
An interesting read, and in the last few posts some detail about the taste etc, so some idea of what the point actually is
I suppose I must be a total philistine when it comes to vodkas that have some sort of taste/flavour from just the spirit as opposed to a "flavoured" vodka.
I find it hard to tell the difference in flavour from different brands. I know a little about brandy flavours, but that's easy with genuine flavoured spirits (hence I much prefer Armagnac and Calvados). The likely differences in flavour from different ingredients in the base ferment is a whole new ball game to me..........

TPW dry wash tastes like a white sherry ! Comes through the still not tasting of anything in particular. FFV tastes to me like a whiskey without the oak.

This is all a part of life's learning process, isn't it?
Keep giving me new stuff to mess with my head, or I may as well be dead.

Re: Teddy's Fast Fermenting Vodka
Anyone here stripped and run a wash of this yet ? I am keen to hear how you got on.
4 years and close to 1000 litres of various washes done by me and this is clean tasting, consistent and fast. And of these of course the taste is what matters. Just a great clean neutral.
For anyone else here running a 23 litre Tea Urn these are my results.
25 litres of wash (so I can stay well clear of the lees)
Strip down in pot mode to 20% ABV gives me 6 litres
REPEAT
Now have 12 litres of clear which I dilute under 30%
Gives me 15 litres to put back in the boiler
Run it slowly in reflux mode (try to sit on 50 degrees return water temp)
Typically collect ...
500ml heads
1.80 litre hearts
500ml tails
1.8 litres @ 93% diluted to 40% gives 4 litres of Vodka.

Re: Teddy's Fast Fermenting Vodka
It certainly is.
As mentioned in the haze thread, I have enough bran to have another go, but I'm going to leave that til I have sufficient neutral stored for my sputnik.
I've got a wonderful wheat wash waiting to clear, so I'm going to try kale next!

I like both washes. Kale for smooth. WWW makes a nice whiskey base.
But no more lentils for me...
