Pot still. I have seen that configuration used by a few folks. It is to do with balancing the weight of the condenser by the mass of the vapour path.

Nice if you can achieve it as some of the condensers can be quite heavy. I do something similar on my VM column by using an offset reflux condenser to balance the weight of the product condenser.

I know it is out of context with this topic but this is what I mean.

No what we did for this customer was to put it on a thumper. The idea was he could take a hearts cut on the pot still, and then in the same run switch to the column for the rest of the run.

Would probabĺy recommend a second boiler just for the column now. No bigger than 50 litres because the run times would be so long.



The thumper mounted column is still a viable option though if it fits your plan.

Forgive my ignorance being new to this hobby but what does a thumper do?

NOT laughing at you it is just that that is a huge issue. Versatile bit of kit that can do a lot dependent on HOW you use it.

They can increase flavour, or product strength, or protect a condenser. It all depends on what you do with it.

S4BB...their on Ebay that way you can see what they look like.

It's a smaller pot which you fill say half way...the vapours from the still travel into the bottom of it, where they pass through what ever you have in the thumper...water, mash
Then exit from the top via the PC into your mason jar..

Just when you think your getting your head around this hobby another still configuration appears.. Lol
Shot guns, thumpers, reflux, bubble caps, pot stills....... Oh, my head hurts!! Lol

OK, today I drove into Falkirk,for a Dental appointment, for a short while, in traffic, following a car with the private plate T500 HAW, didn't get the chance to speak to the driver, but suspect that he/she would be up for a chat.
Not so secret maybe?
