Morning people,I'm new here so be kind to me please I'm in the process of gathering parts to make my still,I've got the stainless pot and I'm using stainless tube for the reflux so my question is shall I be using copper scrubbers inside this? I will be using 1/2" copper as my condenser coil.
Next question is where do I buy copper scrubbers or copper mesh from in uk please?

First, we're kind to everyone around here usually

1/2" copper for the condensing coil won't work unless your column is huge. Most self-build reflux stills are between 2-4" and the coil is usually made from either 6mm or 8mm copper tube as it can be wound by hand to fit inside the reflux column.

I'm not sure where to get copper scrubbers or mesh in the UK but be careful as there's a lot of copper plated mesh and scrubbers about. I get my copper mesh from http://www.brewhaus.com/Copper-Mesh-P947.aspx

You will no doubt have read about copper removing the sulphides from the wash.

But not all washes have this problem, it is quite possible that your washes are sulphide free. In the event that you do have this problem than it will only take a small amount of copper in the still to remove them. if you have a copper coil or condenser then that will probably be enough.

Reading the Russian / Polish forums that seem to focus on Vodka, they say that copper gives it a bad taste and not to use it.

I have talked to several folk who have complained that they can only get 85%-90% from there Bokakob's they have all been using copper mesh, when they changed to Stainless Steel scrubbers they get 90%-95%. This is not due to the type of material but the density of the products, the copper mesh is very open mesh.

My advice to you would be get some Stainless Scrubber and then see if you have a problem-I doubt you will.
