This wouls make a cracking stripping still but what is the benefit of the large elbow rather than putting the column on top ?

Its a pot still so good for flavoured spirits - the only benefit to having a riser (a non packed section) it to collect at a suitable height.

As the section is not packed and there is no forced reflux, this means there is no increase in ABV.

It sold for £370 plus £30 postage, not bad if your making them, I'm going to email the seller and ask if he's making them?

Maybe he can supply a keg with just the 4" tri-clamp for the top opening.

The connection between the Swan Neck and the Condenser looks odd though. It doesn't look like a tri-clamp fitting

Just had a look at the guys feedback, he sells a still quite often, I dropped him a link to our forum so maybe he will say hello, might even make a few quid on custom kegs!

Could work well both ways.

Ive got to say I am pleased I went for the 6" triclamp on the top of my keg as it will make cleaning so much easier than even a 4" opening and worth the extra expense IMHO

V Good point - I suppose you just use adaptors accordingly.

The first time that you catch a sight of a dirty interior,possibly many washes down the line,you will be thankful for the foresight as you reach for a couple of scrubbers and are able to get your hand in.

From what I've learnt from my keg to boiler journey is that if you cant locate someone who can cut and weld stainless steel then this guy could be an option
certainly if he's doing the top fitting using tricclamp ferrule,even at 4", and sorting the heating elements and drain then this is a great place to start as there plenty of pipes, bends etc available from stockists or ebay with triclamp fixings which could combine with the more specialist components such as those supplied by Still Dragon

Got a message back from the guy selling the kegs, he's worth getting in touch with of you want anything making, here's the response...

Hi, I am a welder/fabricator in my day job with a very keen interest in all things brewing and distilling.
I make and sell all kinds of stills so anything you want I can make. 50 litre kegs, 100litre boilers, try-clamp fittings (all sizes). heating elements, reflux columns, condensers, pipe work and anything else made of stainless steel is not a problem.

I feel unsure as to really respond to this.

As an indication of “sincerity”; or “truth” we have a pasted version of a response.

Besides a blatant piece of advertising, through an existing member, what purpose does this serve?

I am rather reminded of other members who seem to feel that their ”opinion” is somehow related to fact.
