Have to disagree with packapoo about vodkastar
They say it's a turbo but IMHO that's a misnomer as unlike nasty 48 hr turbos VS takes a good 2 weeks to ferment out.i guess it's a good blend of yeast and nutrients that works every time and gets going pretty quickly
It's given consistent clean washes for me over many years.
I'm not calling lentil washes or similar but in the big scheme I don't think they save a lot of time or cash
That's not to say I won't try other washes in the future

Compared to my wheat wash, I think the saving in cost terms about £3.50.
However the real saving for me is I am using ingredients from stock. Fermipan we keep in for our bread and and wheat for the chickens.

may be a stupid question but what would the results be like using a turbo yeast with this recipe I have 2 packs of turbo yeast to use or is it best to use them with a plain sugar wash

I don't see why they would cause a worse result than with a plain sugar wash. The lentils provide nutrition as does the the turbo yeast packages so that aspect is kind of redundant. If you just want to use them up, I'd say go ahead. The only caveat would be if they produce a bad tasting sugar wash. Lentils are probably not going to change that.

Yes indeed the flavour will be governed by the yeast strain.

Thanks guys I will be doing at least a minimum of a double distillation run and carbon filtering so hopefully I can lose any bad flavours. Think I will do the turbo yeasts as a pure sugar run and do a lentil wash to compare at very least it will improve my palate plus more for me to drink as well

A good idea to go for comparison washes,it will give you an idea of what works for you.
Have fun.

lol.... tastes lovely, but...... got 2.5 litres out of that wash instead of my usual 5 ( 5% vs 10% I guess... makes sense )
A lot less harsh than the lentle wash but a LOT of effort for little end product unless I went wrong somewhere.

Sounds like it stalled due to low pH or lack of nutrients (seems the wrong time of year to be too cold).

It was sitting 25-28C the entire time in the spare room, same as the lentil ones. PH was 5.4 - close enough..... maybe it needed more nutes? IE more barley than the 500G I threw in.

I thought that barley needed to be fully malted. If it was just sugar with some grain, it's just a basic flavoured wash........

Probably does @phantom, I just saw barley next to lentils and they were cheaper so I thought.... why not lol

No Necessarily. A use chicken wheat.
what yeast did you use and how did you pitch it. This sounds like a startup problem.
