I made a boo boo

Hi , I am a first time maker of spirits and beer. I'm from Germany but have lived in Australia for past 35yrs.

The shop keepers instructions weren't quite clear. I was told to add to the 30L barrel 25L of water then add the 8Kg of sugar , Turbo Carbon and Turbo Yeast.

But I later found out it should have been 21L of water , then the sugar.

So will this boo boo effect the alcohol content percentage? and by how much? I don't want to waste the contents and pour it down the drain.

THank you for any help.

The extra four litres of water will give you more wash at a lower alcohol level, but should not greatly affect what you get out of the still.

If your distilling it won't matter if its a bit lower you should still get decent spirit out, if your using a reflux still I think I'm correct saying it will still come out 90-95%

Hi German75 don't forget your alcometer only works with spirit.your wash will be about 29lts volume with 8kg of sugar added to 25 ltr water so your start sg will be 1.105 and if it ferments down to fg 0.990 you should end up with 14.8 abv.you will loose a couple of litre when syphoning so you will have 27 ltr to distill.through a still that produces at 90 abv you should get about 4ltr of spirit from it, if the still produces at 60 abv about 6 ltr.as regards the Schnapps
