Strawberry Brandy

Postby Anavrin » Sat May 10, 2014 5:42 pm

I've just been watching episode one from season 3 of Moonshiners on sky, two of the guys got a shed load of strawberries to make Straberry Brandy, it got me thinking about a recipe, anyway I found this for a 5 gallon batch (suspect it means 5 US gallons)

WJ's Strawberry Brandy
6 LB frozen strawberries (from Costco)
5 LB. sugar
5 gallon water
Turbo yeast
Puree' the strawberries in a food processor. add 1 gallon boiling water (to kill any stray yeast or mold) and stir. Add sugar and 4 gallons of water, pitch the yeast, and cover loosely to ferment for a week. Strain off all of the solids before distilling

Anyone tried anything similar?

Tried a Raspberry equivalent last year, along the same lines of production.
Used more fruit and less sugar.
Very unimpressed, but that may have been chance,as I only did the one wash.
If there is a glut this year,I may have another attempt.
Robert.
There is no ONE way.

I have seen a few threads about strawberry brandy and they all seem to end with the same conclusion which is ; Make the Alcohol and add the strawberries later.

Here is one of the most commonly quoted recipes that I copied and pasted from another site;

STRAWBERRY PANTY DROPPER

1-2qts frozen strawberries
white granulated sugar
bottle of vodka
lemon juice

Put frozen strawberries in a large mason jar. Fill the jar. Fill the jar the rest of the way up to the top with 120-150proof clear vodka. Set jar on a window sill for about a week(shaking it a couple times a day). Strain out liquid into another jar or bottle. Add enough sugar to the strawberries to completely cover them. Let the jar sit on the window sill (giving it a shake now and then)until most of the sugar appears to be gone, and there is a lot of syrup in the jar. Pour the syrup into a separate jar and add more sugar to the strawberries. Repeat this step until there is no more juices being released from the berries. Add about 1-2 tablespoons of lemon juice to the alcohol, then add the strawberry syrup until the desired taste is reached, water to 80 proof and strain until no strawberry particles are seen. The lemon juice will help preserve the red colour, and the flavour of the strawberries. Without the lemon juice, the finished product will have a chalky aftertaste (quite unpleasant). Any leftover syrup and/or berries is Excellent on ice cream and/or cheesecake.

This is a good drink to put in a blender with ice. Tastes like a strawberry smoothie. A refreshing drink for a hot summer day after mowing the lawn (in moderation..lol) Also good on the rocks.

hi brian, I made up a few batches last summer but I substituted blueberries in place of strawberrys, it turned out quite well.

I haven't had any experience with strawberry brandy but I can 100% vouch for the Strawberry Panty Dropper recipe posted here. It is amazingly good if you like sweet drinks. I make it for my wife and her friends.
