Query with Essencia Filter
I\'m no chemist so I won\'t pretend to understand the inter-action between alcohol and carbon. What I do understand is that it\'s not normal to store carbon thats been saturated in alcohol and then allowed to dry out. Imagine my surprise when out of curiosity I dismantled the ceramic filter and found it is filled with what would appear to be carbon. If this is the case then it certainly would\'nt be wise to extend it\'s use far beyond that recommended for the carbon element. Obviouslly the original design of this filter system was for water filtration and it has been adopted by Essencia for alcohol, which it has proven to be very efficient at however it would be interesting to varify the contents of the ceramic filter just so we know what we\'re doing.

i would hazard a guess and say they are not using that part of the filter for the carbon content, just the ceremic part
but i did wonder as i split a old one open to find out what was inside lol

Thanks, Opus.
I was just about to dump my ceramic filter and place an order for a new one when I read your post. I thought that a ceramic filter was just that -- a filter using the fine structure of ceramic materials to eliminate the unwanted products. I did not realise there was something else lurking within.
When my current batch has gone through, I will take out the ceramic filter and have a look at the innards with my microscope.
Regards, Ronbo.

My take on it, is that if that is carbon inside and the spirit is running through it, the duty cycle can\'t be any different to the actual carbon cartridge. If this is the case it will make the Essencia an un-economic option for our purpose. It might be interesting to get Essencia\'s comment on it or perhaps they might read this thread?
