Best wash for neutral in Airstill

Postby cascas » Sat Jul 28, 2012 7:47 pm

Just reading the forums, and considering buying an airstill.

Naturally, the manufacturer recommend Triple distilled yeast, carbon, turbo clear and that nothing else should be used with an airstill.

Is this the best wash for an airstill, or is there a better wash to use. I have found the TPW - but is this a higher quality neutral or a cheaper wash?

Any help appreciated!!

Hi Cascas and welcome,

TPW is not a Turbo so you don't need to use activated carbon in it - something to be avoided if at all possible - definitely a good clean neutral recipe.

Many around these parts also like Vodka Star because it's not a turbo yeast (despite what it says on the packet) and also does not require activated carbon.

Don't pay any attention to what the manufacturers say. Look up the experiences of others here and you'll see the manufacturers are only after your money :D :D :D

Ask any questions you like, we're a friendly lot around here and you'll always find help available.

So, in answer to your Q, TPW is a good wash to make as is Vodka Star not because they're cheaper but because they're cleaner and produce far superior neutral alcohol for the distiller - that'll be you. ;D

I also like the Vodka Star, as for TPW I found some of tomato flavor to come across when I used the Air Still but it would filter out using a good carbon filter
