ive been looking at thermometers and undecided what to go for

does anyone know if this will do,it only goes up to 70 degrees centigrade
and will the probe fit inside of a 6mm thermo port,also i noticed theres two types
of probes,plastic type and stainless steel type (stainless steel type should give a better reading then the plastic type)

If you are going to be using them to monitor vapour temperature on a reflux rig, then make sure that they measure decimals of a degree. - 0.2 DegC is the difference between pulling hearts and tails.

Repeatability is more important than accuracy, ie generally we are looking for changes in temperature rather than specific numbers.

I spent a long time choosing my thermometers and paid more than I wanted to. I bought two identical units and two identical PT100 probes. When I hooked them up they were 1.7 degrees different, I suppose they could be within specification of plus or minus 1 degree. One could be plus the other minus.

I bought them in a sale so I could not change them, I use them and they are fine and they tell me when things are happening but I could not be specific about what temperature it happens at.

If you wish to use it in a thermo port then obviously the latter two that you list are out of the running.
I have used the first that you listed,I bought a bunch of them,down to one now;they never agreed with each other,but Brian's comments are very salient here.They don't seem to last long,before dying,at least with me!

I needed to buy a different probe for it,but it is much faster and more responsive to changing temperatures,when compared to the first on your list,or my version of the type that AM uses.
And the probe is replaceable.
That probably muddies the waters,rather than helps,sorry!

They are accurate.... they also have a internal calibration switch to check themselves.
±0.3°C accuracy / 0.1 resolution

This was a hassle decades back when I was into analogue photography. Going the extra mile involved buying enough thermometers to end up with 2 that read the same. That way, 1 could be stored safely in case the first one broke.

With them being digital these days, I suppose they could be calibrated against each other. Say 3 units, use the middle one mainly. If that packs up, you already know to add or subtract x degrees from the replacement.

so i might get the second link one and a shorter type of probe as mate said the probe
is about 7" long but you can get one about 3" long

I'm slightly confused.
Your second link is the type I have,the pictured probe with it is about 5mm of twisted together wire,the way these probes work,but not suitable for immersion or steam.
Your third link is claimed to be 3".ish.
Maybe we are talking at cross purposes here, with a sprinkle of misunderstanding.
To me,link 2 and 3 together should float your boat.

yeah I forgot to say that the probes that come with thermometers are useless
thats why he linked me to the 3rd link
