I know this may seem like not much help but what you get out depends on what you put in!
The strength of your wash, how clean it is going into the still, the pH of the wash...all these things will determine what you get out.....and that's just on the stripping run!
On diluting you spirit; 100 proof is 50%ABV and there is a simple formula for calculating the water to be added to get your spirit down to the desired strength.
Take the initial strength (ABV) of your distillate and divide it by the strength (ABV) you want, then take away 1 from the answer, next multiply the remainder by the volume in litres....sounds awkward? Try it this way; if you have
6.5 litres of distillate at
80%ABV and you want to dilute it to
50%ABV the calculation goes like this;
80 divided by
50 = 1.6 minus 1 = 0.6 multiplied by
6.5 = 3.9 which is the amount of clean water, in litres, you must add to the distillate to get the strength to 50%ABV.
Your original 6.5 litres at 80% will become 10.4 litres at 50%, Simples
