bio ethanol gel

A bit off topic but My wife has bought one of those stones that you fill up with bio-ethanol - quite pretty.

Looking on the net there are companies selling the gel but then being tight i found how to make the gel from calcium carbonate and bio-ethanol.
Question is - can ethanol be made with the distiller (pot) with enough strength to produce the gel?
anyone tried it
What was really funny as well, we went to a home with a \"natural flame\" fire and when we asked was it gas they said no it has a container in the bottom for pouring bio-ethanol in and lasts 4 hours to a fill
