Simple degassing

At the risk of someone saying that's obvious or havent you alway done that .......
I have fermented washes both in wine fermenters and brewing bucket the first great for degassing no spray but not as easy to siphon the later quite the reverse with the bucket often spraying some sometimes carbon wash around kitchen when using stick degasser and drill
Then Bingo ! Why not take out the little airlock cork leaving a 20mm hole and put degasser stick through there Result neee mess !!!!!
Might wear the hole after a while but seems ok to me

Forgive me for over thinking this (or under?), but if you put a lid on and degas through the air lock aperture, are you at risk of trapping the c02 in the bucket, possibly leading to re-absorption back into the wash?

I tend to degas by racking the wash from one bucket to another. About half an hour of chucking the 25 litres from one bucket to another normally gets rid of the c02.

It gives me a workout, and make me feel like a big man. It also makes me feel like an artisan, despite me being nothing of the sort.

much as i respect your method which i'm sure you do bare-chested on a frozen lake

i use a stick blender on each load

works a treat and is lazier than lazy

I also have a full beard, and smell of musk.

I'm to cheap to buy a degasser.

I bought a stainless steel paint mixer for £1, but that scratched the inside of a bucket.

So I use the Charlton Heston method.
