Robert.
I think there are three different things all being talked about here
Kalewash
Half and half kale/VS
Double batch VS
I would have thought using VS in a kale wash would be defeating the object

Re: KALE WASH (Feb 2016)
At risk of confusing things further (not intentional) I have added juice from approximately 100 grammes of 5 minutes simmered kale as nutrient to a cachaca/golden syrup wash consisting 6 tins (900g each approx) of lyles syrup making a 23 litre wash(ish). It's bubbling nicely and so far no fart smell (indoors, constant 21 degrees C)
edit yeast was half a tub of green tin bread stuff

I can't think of a great reason to use both.
I have used natural suggestions such as lentil combined with a little dap/wine nutrient as well.
I prefer vs to 48 hour by a long way and consider vs to be as strong a yeast and nutrient combo as I like.

Lentil and a little DAP is what currently floats my neutral boat.
But whatever works for my brother stillers is fine by me.
Robert.

There is no ONE way.

Re: KALE WASH (Feb 2016)
No two ways about it Kale is very good nutrient
for yeast. With Allinsons it makes for great
neutral. Bread yeast can be a little slow.
VS is all but slow,if in a rush.
Now in brew shed loads of space, can put 6 or 8
23ltr washes on at a time
Like many of us space was my final frontier.

Rather have a full bottle in front of me
than a full frontal lobotomy

I have considered but not tried spinach. I imagine a kale/spinach mix would do very well as both are full of good stuff.

boil sounds a bit much so be wary of the good stuff going up the chimney/into the cooker hood. Put a lid on it while it cools so steam with goodness in re-condenses, then use the liquid

I pressure cook mine for 3 mins and let the pressure decline before opening the lid. No steam = no nutrients lost whatsoever = no smell.
